Citizen Workshops 2026

We are happy to announce a new series of workshops for our citizens of Ocean Shores. These are not the course for people wishing to join our team during emergencies. Currently we have three courses that we will be offering throughout 2026. They are free to the public and are presented to you by your local volunteer citizen team members.

*Please understand that we are all volunteers. We ARE NOT city employees and we DO NOT have any inside powers to create “disaster plans”. We simply are not associated with that function. ( DO NOT CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO SIGN UP FOR THESE WORKSHOPS THEY CANNOT HELP YOU DO THAT)*

However, as CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trained citizens we do have the ability to host educational workshops to aid our fellow citizens with better skills and knowledge to be self-reliant during stressful situations in our day-to-day lives. Knowledge is power and together we can do amazing things to help each other.

The courses:

1)          Beginning in-home safety planning for fall and fire prevention

This short workshop will cover some of the common hazards in our home and how we can minimize those hazards as well as information about fire extinguisher use.

This course is roughly 2 hours depending on attendance size

2)          Basic Life Support refresher for CPR & First Aid

As the workshop title suggests this course in a refresher of basic CPR & AED use as well as some first aid skills review. (don’t worry, if you have physical limitations when it comes to practice on the manikins for CPR we have accommodations for that)

This course is roughly 3-4 hours depending on attendance size

3)          Beginning in-home disaster planning (go-bags)

During a large-scale emergency such as wildfire etc many times neighborhoods may be told to grab a bag and evacuate. But during that time of panic is NOT when we should try to throw together our essentials. With a tiny bit of pre-planning, we can empower ourselves to be a bit more prepared during what will most likely be a stressful situation and time is of the essence.

This course is roughly 2 hours depending on attendance size

To sign up for one or more of these sessions please email your name, phone number, the course date and course name to OSTLCERT@AOL.COM. That is all you need to do. You will be added to the workshop list. If for any reason the course is already full then we will email you back and let you know that information so that you can pick another date from the list. DO NOT CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO SIGN UP FOR THE WORKSHOPS, THEY CANNOT HELP YOU DO THAT.

The fire department has been kind enough to sponsor us in our endeavors and provide us with the use of their classroom area. (All participants will stay in that room for the duration of the workshop and there are bathrooms attached to that room.)  Please DO NOT park in front of the large garage-type doors at the fire station. That is off limits to us and would be extremely dangerous in the event their trucks need to respond to a call.
