We are dedicated to providing a group of highly trained volunteers that respond to a multitude of situations; such as, floods and other natural disasters, “Mask Distribution and testing” points, Search and Rescue operations, setting up first aid stations, traffic control points at large community events, and assisting Firefighters in rehabilitation stations when they are operating for extended periods. In short, GH-AVERT steps up when there is no one else to.
VISION
To prepare and protect our growing community & raising disaster awareness.
About us
We are a 501c3 and run completely on donations. We truly enjoy our community and the time we spend assisting our departments. Our team started in March of 2016. We are citizen who volunteer to assist when extra hands are needed in our cities. We all took the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and continue to learn fun new things all the time. The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. All citizens of Grays Harbor are welcome to join. We need volunteers of all skill sets and ages. We have a teen program as well as the adult program. During disasters volunteers are greatly needed, and we pre-trained in many of the skills needed to provide that help. In addition to the basic class we have ongoing practice drills. And we get to take part in fun events as well as the emergencies. We have worked during Covid to deliver meals to our neighbors in need, we help at parades and we assist with handing out coats to children in need during our Halloween event at the convention center in Ocean Shores just to name a few of the fun events. Our team is comprised of all sorts of backgrounds and ages. Many of our members are retired as well as those that are still in the workforce.
